HOW TO REPORT BEACH VIOLATIONS ON HATTERAS ISLAND
Reporting of beach violations (i.e. driving on the dunes, driving over vegetation, driving or walking into bird or turtle enclosures, speeding, drinking and driving, dogs not on leashes, vehicles doing doughnuts or other forms of reckless driving, etc.) is encouraged by the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club. Citations cannot be issued by rangers unless they personally witness a violation. Just because you call in a violation does not mean that a ranger will be able to get to the scene of the infraction in time to issue a citation. That being said, the more specific you are with your information, the better the chance that the violation will result in a citation. To report a violation, proceed as follows: | Write down the vehicle license number and state of issue. | | Write down a description of the vehicle (i.e. blue Ford pick-up, old and a lot of rust on the rear fenders, PVC rod rack in bed of truck but no rods, etc.). | | Write down a description of the occupants of the vehicle (i.e. two males in their 20's without shirts, both with dark hair, one blond female in a blue shirt, all in the front seat and a black dog in the back, bearded male was driving). | | Note the time and location as accurately as possible. | | Be prepared to give contact information. | | Phone numbers Dare County--Central Communications Center: 252-473-3444
Hyde County--Hyde County Dispatch: 252-928-3171
Hyde County--Ocracoke Sheriff Dept: 252-928-7301
Ask that they contact a NPS Ranger regarding your oberservation of the infractions. |
