The Cape Hatteras Anglers Club informed the National Park Service on May 15, 2008 that its "Take Me Fishing" volunteer members voted to suspend their participation in the program due to excessive beach access restrictions. (see Interim Plan Events—5/17/08 for details)

This program has been the most popular program at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area for many years enjoyed by over 1500 participants in the summer of 2007.

We anxiously await the removal of the impediments on historic beach access so the "Take Me Fishing" program can resume.

The irreparable damage to the economy and livelihoods of the people of Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands cannot be condoned by the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club.  We stand with all citizens who oppose restrictions on "Free and Open Beach Access".
