Facts & History

The Cape Hatteras Anglers Club was founded in 1957 and is located in the heart of Hatteras Island near Cape Point in Buxton, NC. The Club shares a rich history of serving the Hatteras Island community, local businesses and merchants, and the thousands of members and guests that descend on North Carolina's most treasured national seashore each year! We have been hosting and growing the largest and most prestigious invitational surf fishing tournament in the world since 1958, attracting teams and anglers from all over the United States and infusing millions of dollars into the local economy. We continue to grow our membership and look forward to sharing the many benefits of becoming a CHAC member with each and every one of you!

Wednesday night Bingo! at the CHAC clubhouse has become an iconic Island tradition over the years and is open to members and guests, although it is far more modernized than the original version played in Italy in 1530 and features computer-generated numbers on our big screen!

The annual CHAC Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament was founded in 1958 and includes 120 Teams, 720 anglers, 30 judges, and countless volunteers and is the largest event of its kind in the US, and according to OBX Visitors Bureau officials, the tournament brings in millions of dollars of economic stimulus to enable the Hatteras Island community to sustain its local businesses through the OBX winter slowdown.

The Club takes pride in awarding annual one-time scholarships to graduating seniors of Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies or homeschooled seniors.
